In the wake of last minute lockdowns and unpredictable government decisions, Scottish cashback app Swipii is expanding their efforts throughout the UK to work with local cafes, bars and restaurants to drive activity back into the sector - and their first stop is Bournemouth.
Founded in Glasgow in 2014, Swipii’s mission is to better connect customers and local businesses. The cashback app uses card linking technology to provide the public with money back when they shop in participating businesses. The business has gained attention with the founders earning a spot on the coveted 30 under 30 Forbes list and have been named among Europe’s top 100 disruptive startups in the retail industry. After a successful launch of their £5 refer a friend scheme this year, Swipii is expanding the proposition, working with businesses in Bournemouth to enable this opportunity for their staff by providing unique business referral codes to help drum up new and returning business.
CEO Louis Schena says “Local businesses are the backbone of the economy. The pace of this pandemic is showing us that businesses are needing to adapt quickly, we don’t want local establishments left behind. Swipii uses technology and a dedicated team to work with small business owners to reach new customers and retarget existing customers. Expanding our referral programme to employees ensures that everyone can benefit in support of local.”
Swipii data is already showing that the number of times people are eating out has halved, though there are indications that despite purchasing less, they are spending more.* With businesses seeing sales decline, Swipii’s initiative seeks to replicate the benefits witnessed with the temporary Eat Out to Help Out scheme. The government scheme was claimed over 100 million times during the period with some businesses saying footfall doubled.
Schena says “Swipii commits to being a realistic and sustainable solution for local businesses in Bournemouth. Our focus is to ensure businesses don’t lose money over discounting to drive customers whilst making sure we don’t cannibalize their already loyal customers.”
As we continue to face sudden and various approaches to lockdown across the UK, Swipii hopes it can provide reassurance to local businesses that there are strategies to ensure their longevity for years to come and looks forward to working with them across Bournemouth.
